Fire detection is seeing an increasing adoption of this technology as part of the drive for efficiency and value. Installation is simple without the need for additional wiring affecting the building structure and where installing wiring would be a challenge. For example, in historic buildings and areas in operations that cannot be shut down for extensive installation. Because of this, it is ideal for retrofitting or upgrading. 

Increase in Connectivity

With the boom in building management systems and smart buildings recently, increasing connectivity is anticipated to be an area of growth. It allows for easier integration of different systems. For example, in the event of the fire detection system detecting a fire, the HVAC system can be shut down and emergency exits can be opened to facilitate escape.

IoT, or Internet of Things, refers to the collective network of connected devices and the technology that facilitates communication between devices and the cloud, as well as between the devices themselves. With the number of connected devices expected to reach 27 billion by 2025, the use of IoT and cloud-based technologies is also becoming increasingly popular in the fire detection market.

Combining IoT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is going to mean that fire detection systems are going to become a lot smarter. They will continually increase their ability to detect and locate fires earlier and decrease the incidence of false alarms.

The leverage of intelligent analytics and machine learning algorithms will analyse data patterns and detect potential fire risks more accurately. The systems will have the ability to quickly notify relevant personnel reducing response times and thereby damage.

Advances in Sensor and Detection Technology

The advances in sensors and detection technologies have meant that accuracy is improving. Fire detection systems have incorporated these to improve accuracy and reduce false alarms. These technologies include video smoke detection, multi-sensor detectors, flame detectors, and aspirating smoke detection.

With connected devices comes addressable fire detection systems which can provide precise location information of fire incidents from the unique address of each of the detectors or devices in the system. This yields faster location identification aiding in quicker response and earlier evacuation.
